Can’t Blow Us Away!
This year's conference theme has a dual meaning. First, of course, it refers to the resilience of Louisianans who survived one of the nation's worst natural disasters. To them, the hurricane symbol is a badge of courage; a symbol of survival. Louisiana has persevered and preserved its unique culture and culinary traditions. Can't Blow Us Away also refers to the rebirth of DiRōNA. As the organization advances through transition, facing challenges and making difficult decisions, the organization will emerge unified and stronger than ever.
The educational programming at this year’s conference will address the challenges facing DiRōNA restaurants and the foodservice industry today. The rising cost of energy and food, the reduction in consumer disposable income, immigration concerns, food safety, among others. As you attend sessions and network with your peers, learn how others are facing these challenges and share solutions.
In addition to educational programming tailored to your needs, the DiRōNA conference planning committee, chaired by Chef John Folse, has designed a program around some of New Orleans’ most unique venues and attractions. Historic Jackson Square and the Cabildo will host your welcome to the Crescent City on the opening evening. The Cabildo houses thousands of artifacts, which tell Louisiana’s story from French colonial days through Reconstruction. The next evening, experience the Vieux Carré just as prosperous Creole families did in the 1830s. Built in 1831, the Hermann-Grima House is one of the most significant residences from New Orleans’ Golden Age. This venue shares a courtyard with Broussard’s, a DiRōNA restaurant, where you’ll enjoy an array of fine desserts, famous drinks of yesterday and today and Louisiana hand-rolled cigars. The final evening – the Gala dinner – will take place in the Plimsoll Club of New Orleans’ World Trade Center. The reception and dinner will be accentuated with a spectacular panoramic view of the Crescent City and winding Mississippi River.
